My parents bought a 2CV… and don’t ask me why

About a week ago, my parents bought for a 2CV from Ebay. I’m still not sure exactly why (we already have 2 cars – a Hyundai i10 and a Volvo XC90 – from this year and a just a few years ago, respectively), but I suppose it is because:

  • They had a 2CV years ago, before I was born, but my Dad slightly bumped it and it fell apart, so they had to get rid of it. Plus, I don’t think they thought it was safe for kids. So why is it suddenly safe now?
  • My Mum has a zero-something birthday coming up, so this is a present

Expanding on the safety point, this car really isn’t safe. Most cars these days have something like a 5-star safety rating, and I think this car will have 1/2 a star, maximum. It doesn’t have seatbelts in the back, for a start (though my parents are looking into it). And my Dad proved how easy it is to destroy one about 14 years ago, and the car we have now might be older than the one they had years ago. Anyway, enough of my rant about the car. Here’s a picture:

"Vikram" the 2CV

“Vikram” the 2CV

Oh, yeah, and my parents named it. They name all of their cars. The Volvo’s called “Edward” and the Hyundai’s called “Milo” (they added an “m” in front of the “i10″ on the back of the car to make it say “Milo”). And the 2CV is called “Vikram”. I honestly find it a little weird, but if you think that is, then let me tell you this: my mum wrote a poem about it today. A poem about a car. “How many places have you seen?” is one of the lines. It’s a car. It isn’t alive. It hasn’t seen anything. It’s not alive.

To top it off, my parents have created a blog about this “Vikram”. I’ve ranted about enough today, so I won’t say my thoughts on it, but here’s a link:

From the current status of my families’ blogs, I’d say this will last 2 months, tops. Take a look at my families’ ‘current’ blogs (here, here and here) and you’ll see that they are dormant.

Anyway, I suppose that is enough for the day. If I die in that dreaded “Vikram” – which I might – this blog will have to join the graveyard of blogs, just as my families’ has (though they’re still alive). That hopefully won’t happen though.

What are your thoughts on 2CVs?

Why Our Parents Put Us To Shame (via Momma Be Thy Name)

Nice learning from the generation before me :D . Pick up the wisdom of the past as well as learning for the future.

I’m re-blogging this in All of Time and Space blog ’cause it’s been lonely of posts recently ;) .

Why Our Parents Put Us To Shame I often think about how we survived under the watch of our parents.  There were no infant seats (how did you get anywhere with me in the car?), no seat belts (ok, there were seat belts, but they weren’t safe and no one wore them), people smoked basically everywhere, we gnawed happily on plastic and toys full of lead, climbed on high steel monkeybars, and electrical outlets were always in plain view and ready for a zappin’. a love story retold (via the daysman)

a love story retold Debbie and Eric are getting married this weekend. Again. It’s a love story retold, two people finding each other after losing each other. But more than that, it’s a story of grace. When the men in our church met with Eric this week for a night of blessing, he confessed that the first time around he was too busy and too self-centered. He missed the warning signs. But since then they both found Christ. And they found a new heart, a new family and a … Read More

Debts to repay

Describe a debt you have yet to repay. I have a couple…

One is to my family. Not with money (though I’m sure they’d appreciate all the money back that they have spent on me over the years). My family has put up with my annoyances for many years, and I am grateful.

Another is to Jesus. He died to save us.

On to the money side…. I don’t think I have any. Well, I do have one. I got my Clarinet partly for Christmas, and the rest needs paying off at my birthday. A small-ish debt.

What debts do you have?
